SUNFLOWERS FOR SEED

Helianthus annuus

Annual plant that grows to a height of about 1.20 m producing large flowers that follow the movement of the sun. Requires fertile soil. Mainly used for seed when ripe and once harvested these are oven-roasted and salted a procedure that makes them edible and ready for use under the term “sunflower seeds” (or “pipas” in Spanish). The seeds are also used for extracting sunflower oil.
